  • "AITA for choosing to prioritize my daughter's future over my son's potential regret?"

I (55M) gave my son (25M) $50,000 to start his dream business. He promised to pay me back, but instead, he used the money to travel and party with friends.

  • When I confronted him, he ghosted me and hasn't spoken to me since. I've tried reaching out, but he's ignored all my messages. I'm hurt and

  • I feel like he took advantage of me and my generosity. I'm not sure if I'll ever get the money back, but I want him to know that his actions have consequences. I'm
  • hoping he'll realize his mistakes and make amends, but until then, I'm done. My daughter has always been responsible and grateful for my support.

  • She deserves to inherit my estate, not my son who clearly doesn't appreciate it. AITA for choosing to prioritize my daughter's future over my son's potential regret?

  • No_Piccolo6540 Wrote a letter to your useless son and tell Him son you already spent your inheritance and if you challenge the will name. some legal shit. I think you
  • have to leave him a penny or Something, consult a lawyer and have everything documented and kosher. Protect your daughter from your son.

  • He'll never be able to pay you back. Tell her that was his inheritance and it's your wish he doesn't get a penny more after you're gone. Make sure you talk to an attorney because I guarantee he'll try to sue his sister for some of her inheritance.
  • Panama_Scoot OP, I'm a lawyer-you are getting a lot of BAD legal advice here. Meet with an attorney in real life please when you formulate this plan. It'll make your other child's life much easier.
  • Free-Place-3930 NTA. You do what you want with your money and time. It sounds like leaving it to your daughter is the right choice. Make the change now. You can always switch it up in the future.

  • Chance_Loss_1424 I'm no big city lawyer but couldn't you put the $50K in the will? Something like on Day X of the year XYZ I loaned my son $50K. If
  • the debt has been repaid then my son is entitled to 123 but if not he can consider the loan forgiven and that is now his inheritance.
  • Also may want to consider leaving him something even if the loan isn't repaid. Doesn't have to be big but word on the street is if he still gets something it makes it harder for him to contest the will.
